David Fano
Partner

David Fano established CASE Design in 2008. He previously worked at SHoP Architects, where he was Director of Technology Research. His responsibilities included managing technology R&D initiatives, working with project teams to ensure the successful implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM), and developing "direct to fabrication" initiatives with software manufacturers and fabricators through the use of BIM. He contributed technology expertise on numerous projects, including a 41-story rental tower in New York City and The New Seaport - a 860,000 sq. ft. multi-use development in New York City's Historic Seaport District. Since 2006, David has been an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation where he teaches seminars and workshops focusing on the impact of technology on design processes. David received his Master of Architecture with honors from Columbia University where he was the recipient of the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize and the Computer Aided Design Honor Award.

Steve Sanderson
Partner

Steve Sanderson is a founding partner of CASE Design. Prior to CASE, Steve was the Director of Design Technology at SHoP Architects. At SHoP, he was a project lead on numerous high-profile international projects including: the East River Waterfront Masterplan for the City of New York, a new pedestrian bridge for the Battery Park City Authority, a commercial development for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China and a proposal for twin residential towers in Busan, South Korea. As Director of Design Technology, Steve was responsible for introducing Parametric Modeling, Computational Design, and Environmental Analysis into SHoP’s design and delivery process, establishing the firm as an industry thought leader. He has taught design studios and seminars at Columbia University’s GSAPP and Yale University’s School of Architecture and speaks internationally on the role of technology in design innovation. Steve holds a BS (Hons) in Industrial Design from Virginia Tech and an ME in Product-Architecture and Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

Federico Negro
Partner

Prior to founding CASE, Federico Negro was one of the managers for the design and construction of the 290 Mulberry Street Condominiums, SHoP Architect's pilot BIM project. His responsibilities, beyond those immediate to the project, included the strategic planning and implementation of firm-wide BIM standards. Federico's focus is on the use of design technologies for coordination, management and implementation of specialty fabrication components and construction. He has lead these efforts on numerous projects, including 290 Mulberry's custom undulating brick and pre-cast concrete facade, 39571 Project's curving timber roof structure, and daylight control screens for an athletic center at Brown University. He has collaborated on design studios and seminars at Yale University's School of Architecture and Columbia University's GSAPP, as well as several publications on integrated design, including "SHoP Works, Collaborazioni costruttive in digitale" of the IT Revolution in Architecture series. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Parsons The New School for Design (High Hons) and a BS in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

Kendall Baldwin

Kendall Baldwin is a current undergraduate student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, pursuing her Bachelor of Architecture and Professional degrees. She joined the CASE team in 2009. Prior to joining CASE, Kendall spent a semester abroad, participating in an international design workshop focused on complex geometries at the Politecnico di Torino in Turin, Italy as well as a design studio in Rome. Following this, she spent a semester as a research assistant at the Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology, partnered with SOM, researching advanced architectural systems that promote building sustainability. The design work produced in these programs led Kendall to be the recipient of Bentley's 2009 Academic Award of Excellence, specializing in the creation of well-engineered, computational designs using Generative Components.
