Integrated Design

CASE at SIGraDI

On November 16th, Fed will take part in a round table discussion called "Challenges for the Adoption of BIM Technologies in the Practice" at the SIGraDi 2009 conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Environmental Technology Class at Parsons

Alas, summer is coming to an end and we're gearing up for the Fall, which means a lot of teaching and workshops. Among other things, I'll be co-teaching the Environmental Technology course at Parsons School of Constructed Environments this Fall with Emilie Hagen and Wendy Meguro of Atelier Ten.

CASE AIANY Tech Lecture now available online

The lecture that we gave over a month ago (wow, that went fast!), is now available online, thanks to the good folks at Bentley. Unfortunately, you also have to register with them to watch the video (they have to get something out of it right?).

CASE lectures at Auburn

Dave, Fed and I are visiting the new integrated practice Master of Design-Build. We traveled down to Auburn for a day and met with faculty, popped in for some desk crits and presented our work to the student body during the afternoon lecture series. It was a great visit and we're honored to play a small part in such a visionary program.

CASE speaks at AIANY Tech Series

CASE has been invited to present during the monthly AIANY Tech Lecture series. We're stoked to take part in this consistently impressive series and hope we can live up to everyone's expectations.

I've included the original announcement below:

Parsons | School of Constructed Environments | Design Workshop

Here's a video from PLAID's (Parsons School of Constructed Environments) Design Workshop program run by David Lewis of LTL.  I was interviewed last year specifically for my role in bringing in the program to help out Katrina-ravaged DeLisle, a small town in coastal Mississippi.

Fed speaks on Integrated Design

Kiel Moe launched his new book "Integrated Design in Contemporary Architecture" at the Architectural League of New York in November and invited me to present my work on the 290 Mulberry Condominiums.  Kiel's book focuses on how technology enables further integration of the design process.

Steve co-teaches Studio and Seminar at Yale SOA

During the Spring 2008 semester, I co-taught both a design studio and seminar at Yale with Chris Sharples and Stephen Van Dyck from SHoP.

Steve in The Architect's Newspaper

I was interviewed in 2006 by Samantha Topol for an article in The Architect's Newspaper on the impact of BIM on design practices. The article focuses on the way that new technologies are blurring the traditional roles and responsibilities of practice through the integration of design with information. Specifically, the practice of dividing architects into design and technical paths and projects into isolated drawing sheets is fundamentally rethought through the use of BIM.

Steve speaks on AIAS Panel

In April 2006, I was invited to speak on “New Approaches and Opportunities in the Practice of Architecture" as part of a panel during the AIAS Convergence NYC event. I described the impact that information technologies were having on the profession and how this provided new opportunities for young architects. The discussion, led by Kevin Kennon, was lively and encouraging.
